1. Tajh Boyd QB Clemson
Last Week: BYE Next Week: at North Carolina State
Summary: An off week for the Tigers gives Boyd a chance to rest up and get ready for the start of the ACC conference play. Clemson starts off against NC State which should be an easy game for Tajh since the Wolfpack beat FCS Richmond by only two points. Boyd continues to hold down the top spot, mainly because of his outstanding opening game against Georgia. But as the season wears on, he'll need to make sure the wins keep coming and that he can put up some big numbers. If not, there crowd behind him is starting to get closer.
2. Marcus Mariota QB Oregon
Last Week: 23/33 456 yards 4 TDs, 1 rushing TD vs Tennessee (59-14) Next Week: BYE
Summary: Another game another dominant performance that Mariota made look easy. The self proclaimed "point guard" did a wonderful job distributing the ball to his play makers to the tune of 456 yards on 70% passing. Add in his five total touchdowns and it's hard not to like watching him play. Mariota keeps this up and he could rise back to the top of the rankings, especially with Washington, Stanford, and UCLA still on the horizon.
3. Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
Last Week: 16/28 250 yards 1 TD, 35 rushing yards at Kentucky (27-13) Next Week: vs Florida International
Summary: We've gotten use to Bridgewater putting up near flawless numbers the past couple of weeks. So with a poor Kentucky team on the schedule this week it was easy to assume he'd do the same. However a slow start really got to the Cardinals and Bridgewater looked human. Usually a underwhelming game like this isn't a big deal, but since Louisville has such a weak strength of schedule he needs big time games week in and week out to get that buzz needed. We'll see if he bounces back next week against FIU.
4. Jameis Winston QB Florida State
Last Week: 15/18 214 yards 2 TDs 1 INT, 1 rushing TD vs Nevada (62-7) Next Week: vs Bethune-Cookman
Summary: After an impressive start to his first season Winston had to wait two weeks for his second game. This game wasn't as dynamic, mainly because it was such a blowout. But in his limited action, Winston was efficient and continues to show his pure talent. Expect much of the same next week as the Seminoles host FCS Bethune-Cookman in what should be a complete blowout. Let's hope that they turn Winston loose a little.
5. AJ McCarron QB Alabama
Last Week: Next Week:
Summary: Big time players usually show up in big time games. And that is exactly what McCarron did against A&M in what was the most anticipated game of the college season. He threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns while completing 69% of his passes. It's games like this that really stand out to Heisman voters. So this gets him back into the race. However he's still going to need more games like this against LSU and the rest of the conference slate if he wants to bring home the hardware.
Just missed out
Duke Johnson RB Miami
Johnson burst into the Heisman Watch with an outstanding performance against Florida International, but has been quiet the past two weeks. He struggled to find running room against a good Gator defense and then had a bye week. Now he still finds himself in the top five, but he's going to need a couple of big performances if he wants to stay here. Luckily Savannah State comes down to South Beach and he should be able to get some early yards and hopefully a couple touchdowns. Because there are some voters who are all ready forgetting about him.
Brett Hundley QB UCLA
Going into halftime it looked like Hundley and the Bruins were going to suffer a big time loss. However a few halftime adjustments and Hundley woke up and asserted himself agianst the Huskers defense. Hundley orchestrated 38 straight points in leading the Bruins to a 41-21 victory. He finished with 350 total yards and 3 touchdowns. This performance gets him back into everybody's minds and if they can get a few big wins in conference play it won't be stretch to see him in New York.
