1. Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0) LW 1
Any thoughts of Alabama struggling against spread teams may be put to sleep with their performance against Ole Miss. Holding the explosive Rebel offense scoreless is a major statement. Alabama basically solidified their spot as the top team in the nation.
2. Oregon Ducks (4-0) LW 2
Oregon made such quick work of Cal that they actually got to sit their starters. But before they could do that RB/WR threat DeAnthony Thomas had to leave the game with an injury. Even though he hasn't had a huge impact, the Ducks need him 100% when the bulk of their Pac 12 schedule is coming.
3. Clemson Tigers (4-0) LW 3
It's about time the Tigers got their offense back to their high flying ways and no better of time with Florida State coming up. Although they can't overlook Syracuse who are use to playing spoiler the last couple of years. But the Tigers should be fine.
4. Stanford Cardinal (4-0) LW 4
Life is so much easier when your defense is scoring points for you. But that's easy to do when your playing Washington State. It gets tougher for the Cardinal this week going against a rising Washington team that is looking to make an impact. Could be the game of the week.
5. Georgia Bulldogs (3-1) LW 9
Yes I have Georgia with one loss ranked ahead of several undefeated teams. But we are talking about a Georgia team that just beat LSU and only loss to Clemson by 3 points. The scary thing is that their defense is getting better as the year goes on, and their offense is starting to really get going.
6. Louisville Cardinals (4-0) LW 5
It's no surprise that Louisville keeps sliding down the rankings, even with their wins. They haven't played anybody and the teams they have played look even worse. Their opponent this weekend, Temple, just lost to Idaho. Yes Idaho. It's going to be almost impossible to make the National Title Game at this rate.
7. Florida State Seminoles (4-0) LW 6
Florida State overcame a slow start to beat Boston College and now face off against a surprisingly good Maryland team. What makes matters worse is that Clemson is coming up in two weeks. The Seminoles can't afford to look past this game because they've shown they are vulnerable. Should be fun to watch.
8. Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0) LW 8
We got to see the return of Braxton Miller and he looked like he hasn't lost a step. Ohio State got out to a good lead in part because of a great throw by Miller for a TD right at the end of the half. That momentum broke the game open and helped the Buckeyes continue their unbeaten streak to 17 games.
9. LSU Tigers (4-1) LW 7
It's really hard to downgrade the Tigers since they lost to Georgia by three points. LSU is clearly one of the top one loss teams and may lose only one more game. A big reason for that continues to be QB Zach Mettenberger who is looking like one of the best QBs in the country.
10. Texas A&M Aggies (4-1) LW 10
Aggie fans I hate to tell you, but you are going to see a lot of games like this for the rest of the season. Yes Johnny Manziel is a stud and going to put up points. But the defense is just horrible. A&M is going to have to outscore opponents week in and week out to get wins. Doing that in the SEC is going to be tough.
11. South Carolina Gamecocks (3-1) LW 11
What a rollercoaster of a game we saw in Orlando. UCF came out and got the early lead and then gave it away. It looked like South Carolina was going to run away with it. Then UCF got right back into the game and almost won. Not the consistency you need and the Gamecocks aren't as good as some thought. By the way, anybody seen Jadeveon Clowney lately?
12. UCLA Bruins (3-0) LW 12
It's very rare for a team to have two byes within the first five weeks of the season. But with their Thursday night game against Utah, the Bruins took a weekend off to prepare for the shortened week. Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite them in having an extra week off in the middle of the Pac 12 season to rest their bodies.
13. Miami Hurricanes (4-0) LW 13
Back to back blowout wins is always a good thing. This week it was to a South Florida team that was in all sorts of disappear. Miami jumped out to a quick 34-7 half time lead and then cruised in the second half. Now up is a Georgia Tech team that is a hard team to plan for. It should be a good early season test to see how dialed in the Hurricanes are.
14. Baylor Bears (3-0) LW 15
Here is another team that has had their second bye week already. So the Bears should be rested up for West Virginia and probably got to see what they did to Oklahoma State which was considered to be the top team in the Big 12. But can they handle this Bears offense? Should be fun to watch.
15. Oklahoma Sooners (4-0) LW 16
I don't get why everybody was so enamored with Oklahoma's win over Notre Dame. It's not like Notre Dame is a top ten team. They'll probably lose four games this year. Oklahoma is clearly the better team and got the easy win. Their opponent this weekend TCU is much more of a concern because of their defense and takeaway ability.
16. Washington Huskies (4-0) LW 17
The Arizona game could have easily been a struggle for the Huskies, but instead they cruised to a win. The 4-0 start is the Huskies best start in years and gives them a ton of momentum going into their game at Stanford. If the Huskies want to win the North Division, they'll need a win here. But going against that tough Cardinal defense is going to be a lot for QB Keith Price and the Washington offense.
17. Northwestern Wildcats (4-0) LW 19
With the Big 10 schedule starting, the Wildcats were one of many Big 10 teams that had an off week. And it couldn't have come at a better time. The Wildcats play host to Ohio State in a match up of the two best teams in the conference. A win against the Buckeyes would be huge for this program and give them a huge leg up in the Legends Division.
18. Mississippi Rebels (3-1) LW 18
Yeah Mississippi lost this week 25-0 to Alabama, but I had a hard time dropping them down from their spot. They lost to the best team in the nation at their stadium. Add in that the game was closer than the score indicated I didn't see anybody behind them that I felt was still better. Mississippi should still be fine and still be in the thick of the SEC West. I wouldn't be surprised to see them finish 3rd ahead of A&M.
19. Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-1) LW 14
What a bad loss for the Cowboys. What was thought to be the class of the Big 12 they can't lose to teams at the bottom of the conference. The good thing is the season isn't over yet. The winner of the Big 12 isn't going to be undefeated. Luckily the Cowboys have KState this weekend to get things back on track.
20. Florida Gators (3-1) LW 20
It was their first full game without QB Jeff Driskel for the Gators. New QB Tyler Murphy dazzled last week, but in his first start he got off slow and allowed the Wildcats to stick in the game. But the Gators turned to RB Matt Jones who carried the offense for 174 yards rushing. The Gators now play host to Arkansas which should allow them to get Murphy even more comfortable as the season progresses.
21. Michigan Wolverines (4-0) LW 22
Just like most of the Big 10 teams, the Wolverines enjoyed a nice bye week right before the bulk of Big 10 play (played against Purdue two weeks ago). And this couldn't have come at a better time. Michigan struggled against Akron and Purdue which are two of the worst teams in their respective conferences. A far cry from what everybody thought of Michigan after the Notre Dame win. We'll see if the bye week helped and if they blow out Minnesota or play another close game.
22. Fresno State Bulldogs (4-0) LW 23
If you didn't stay up to 11:00 CST, you probably didn't see Fresno State take on Hawaii. And by the way the Bulldogs played in the second half, maybe they fell asleep too. Fresno State jumped out to 42-3 lead but had to hold off the Warriors who five straight touchdowns to come within five points. What a collapse that would have been.
23. Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-0) LW 24
It's safe to say the 4-0 start that the Red Raiders have gotten off to has to be a little surprising to many. And after a shaky start to the Texas State game, the Raiders were able to take a week off to get things figured out before starting up Big 12 play again. Luckily they go against Kansas and Iowa State these next two weeks which shouldn't pose much of a threat.
24. Maryland Terripans (4-0) LW NR
I would have been the last person to predict the Maryland Terripans to be undefeated and ranked in the top 25 five weeks into the year. Heck I thought Randy Edsall was entering the hot seat and could be out of a job. Instead the Terripans have raced off to a 4-0 start and won pretty impressively. But we will get to see how good they really are when they travel to Florida State this weekend. They could catch the Seminoles looking forward to Clemson.
25. Wisconsin Badgers (3-2) LW 21
Even though they have two losses, it's hard to take Wisconsin out of the rankings. Their first losses was a hosing they got at Arizona State, and then their second loss was to top 10 ranked Ohio State in Columbus by seven points. The Badgers are still better than a lot of the teams unranked with better records. They have a bye week and then a chance to get things rolling against Northwestern.
Dropped Out: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
