Weekend Kickoff (Week 2)

Games of the Week
Season Record (4-1)

#7 South Carolina Gamecocks at #11 Georgia Bulldogs
An already strong game could have been even bigger if Georgia would have beaten Clemson. But that still shouldn't take away from this game which will help settle the SEC East. Georgia needs this game bad to get their season back on track after that loss to Clemson and to look for revenge from last year's 35-7 drubbing. I really am looking forward to seeing Georgia's offense against the Gamecock defense. Can Georgia sure up their pass protection that allowed Clemson 4 sacks and numerous amounts of pressure on Aaron Murray. That task doesn't get easier with Jadeveon Clowney on the attack. If Georgia can keep Murray clean they have a great shot at bouncing back.
Prediction: South Carolina 27 Georgia 20

#14 Florida Gators at #15 Miami Hurricanes
This use to be one of the biggest games of the year, but with recent struggles at Miami the game has kinda fallen back. But this year is different. Miami is on the rise and brings in one of the most explosive offenses in the nation. RB Duke Johnson exploded last week for 186 yards while QB Stephon Morris is developing into one of the best signal callers in the nation. They'll be facing off against a talented Florida defense that returns their best player in Louchiez Purifoy who was suspended for the opener. But he's back and he could breathe some life into the Gators one dimensional attack. The key to this game will be whether Miami can slow down the Gators ground game. RB Matt Jones returns and gives the Gators another RB to pair with Mack Brown who rushed for over 100 yards against Toledo.
Prediction: Florida 17 Miami 28

#10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at #17 Michigan Wolverines
Once this game is finished, we'll know a lot about these two teams. Michigan has a lot of questions marks going into this season with a new QB and few weapons but completely blew out Western Michigan. Are the Wolverines that good, or did they just play an awful team. Notre Dame is coming off a National Title Game appearance and having to play their backup QB. They struggled with Temple for most of the game. With Notre Dame having a weaker schedule, they need to win this game to keep them in the National Title hunt, where as Michigan needs it to keep them on pace to win the Legends Division. The battle to watch within this game is how QB Devin Gardner does against a talented Notre Dame defense. Is he the real deal a lot of national pundits think he is? Can Tommy Rees turn the corner and lead the Fighting Irish offense to the promised land? Or will he struggle like he did last year when he got benched for Everette Golson? We'll know by the end of the game.
Prediction: Notre Dame 16 Michigan 24

#19 Texas Longhorns at BYU Cougars
Texas has moved back to the spread offense and lit up the scoreboards against New Mexico State, but that's not saying a whole lot. We'll get a better idea when they face off against BYU and their talented defense. BYU is looking to bounce back after losing to Virginia and get their season back on track. Playing in Provo is tough and will give the Longhorns a good test before the Big 12 season. If QB David Ash can play like he did last week then Texas should win. But Ash has been far from consistent throughout his career.
Prediction: Texas 38 BYU 20

San Jose State Spartans at #5 Stanford Cardinal
This is a pretty bad week of college football and I had a hard time picking the fifth best game of the week. Stanford is one of the best teams in the nation, while San Jose State is in transition in coaching and in conferences. However it does have the makings of an interesting game. We'll see one of the top QBs in the nation in David Fales go against a very tough Stanford defense. It should really tell us what type of QB he really is. San Jose State may give Stanford a run early, but the talent and depth of the Cardinal should stand out. I wouldn't be shocked if this ended up being a blowout.
Prediction: San Jose State 10 Stanford 34

Watch out for.....

North Dakota State
If your looking at your favorite college's future schedule and see North Dakota State on it. Be afraid, be very afraid. Maybe send a letter to your school's athletic director, petition to try to get them off. Your team will likely lose. Maybe not, but the Bison are coming off of their opening game win over Kansas State they are putting fear into FBS schools.

This win gives the Bison their fourth straight win over a FBS school. Now it's not like they beat Alabama or Oregon, but none the less it's still impressive. Most FCS schools are looking for a payday and are expecting to get beat up. But not the Bison. They are back to back FCS National Champions and they are actually looking to win. But with their recent success and BCS Conference schools not wanting to get embarrassed, I highly doubt anybody is going to be scheduling them anytime soon.

What are they thinking?

UConn Huskies
I get that uniforms are a big deal in college football now days. It all started with Oregon having 100 different color combinations. It grew when Maryland went all sorts of crazy with their helmets a couple years ago. So now schools are trying new things with their helmets and uniforms all to get attention and hopefully get better recruits to come to their school. I get that.

But what was UConn thinking when the designers came to them with these helmets? They are unique and nobody has thought up putting your logo into a panel down the middle of the helmet. But these are flat out bad. They don't look good and make the Huskies look like a joke. Doesn't also help that they dropped their first game in the uniforms to FCS Towson. Let's just hope that next year they go back to having their logo on the side of the helmet where it belongs. Because the rest of the uniform isn't bad at all
