Pat Fitzgerrald
Every year whenever coaching jobs open up, one of the first names that comes to everybody's mind is Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald. And why not? All Fitzgerrald has done from day 1 is instill a sense of toughness and competitiveness in a program that is often an afterthought in their conference and in Chicago. The Wildcats are a constant threat and have become a contender to win the Big 10 annually. Add in that he's doing it at one of the most prestigous Universities in the country only adds to the great job he is doing.
But so far Fitzgerald has turned down every offer. When Michigan fired Rich Rodriguez, Fitzgerald was one of their top targets. He turned them down. With USC open and Texas likely, expect him to be one of their top choices.
But don't expect him to leave. Fitzgerald is a Chicago native and Northwestern alumn. He was a star player and captin of the Wilcats leading them to a Big 10 Title back in 1995. He loves Northwestern and the Chicago area. He's stated several times that he loves having family close and that his parents get to see their grandchildren on a dialy basis. Does this sound like a guy that is looking to leave? Add in that Northwestern has recently laid out plans to upgrade their facilities and given him several raises and it looks like he'll stay there for years to come.
